Second suspect arrested in Natchez slaying

NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - Natchez police have charged a second man in connection with the March shooting death of a man outside his home.

 18-year-old Frederick Hunt Jr. was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder.

Two Natchez residents arrested on drug charges

Two Natchez residents were arrested Wednesday on drug charges following a search at an apartment in the Cedar Hurst apartment complez.

According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Metro Narcotics agents arrested 33-year-old Derrick Lamont Coleman and 35-year-old Natalie Nicole Letcher following an extensive investigation.

Coleman was charged with two counts of sale of marijuana within 1,500 ft. of a church, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,500 ft. of a church, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute within 1,500 ft.

An Adams County jailer ended up in jail Wednesday after he was arrested by Vidalia, La., police.

Brandon Lee Gardner, a detention officer at the Adams County jail, was arrested at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday and charged with DUI first offense, reckless operation of a vehicle, criminal damage to property, aggravated flight from an officer and battery of an officer, according to a statement from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Gardner has resigned from his position with the sheriff’s office.

An Adams County woman was arrested Thursday after officers found two dead dogs and several other neglected dogs at a home the woman was renting.

Latoya Burden, 25, was charged with animal cruelty and released Thursday on $1,000 bond, according to a press release from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

On March 29, deputies responded to Burden's residence on Martin Luther King Street in Natchez in response to a citizen’s complaint, according to the ACSO.

Drug search warrant leads to arrest in Adams Co.

An Adams County man was arrested Wednesday morning after officers reportedly found drugs and firearms in his residence while executing a search warrant.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Metro Narcotics agents found 16 grams of cocaine, 13 ounces of marijuana, and approximately $586 in cash and 17 firearms in the residence, according to the ACSO.

Louis Shelby Johnson, 26, was arrested on charges of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Two Natchez residents arrested on child abuse charges

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office has made two arrests in a child abuse case.

Earlier this week, deputies arrested Erica Nicole Bumgarner, 23, and Daniel Justin Bumgarner, 30, on charges of child abuse and battery causing serious bodily harm. Authorities say the alleged victim is a child under the age of 13.

A Natchez woman has been sentenced to one year of house arrest after pleading guilty to felony child deprivation.

Venicia Firley, 26, was arrested in June 2011 after an investigation into an incident involving her two children.

Firley left her 2-year-old and 4-year-old children alone at their Natchez home in May 2011.

While she was away, the house caught on fire, and firefighters found the two children covered in soot and unresponsive in a room of the home, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
