Relay for Life success for Miss-Lou, ACSO

Adams County Sheriff's Office deputies raised nearly $4,000 for Miss-Lou's 2012 Relay for Life this year.

“Our deputies not only work to protect the citizens of Adams County when they’re on duty – they volunteer to help change people’s lives through helping with organizations such as Relay for Life and Special Olympics,” Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said. “I love seeing deputies step up and make a difference.”

Second suspect arrested in Natchez slaying

NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - Natchez police have charged a second man in connection with the March shooting death of a man outside his home.

 18-year-old Frederick Hunt Jr. was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder.

Two Natchez residents arrested on drug charges

Two Natchez residents were arrested Wednesday on drug charges following a search at an apartment in the Cedar Hurst apartment complez.

According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Metro Narcotics agents arrested 33-year-old Derrick Lamont Coleman and 35-year-old Natalie Nicole Letcher following an extensive investigation.

Coleman was charged with two counts of sale of marijuana within 1,500 ft. of a church, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,500 ft. of a church, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute within 1,500 ft.

2nd annual ACSO Rodeo was big success

The Adams County Deputy Pro Rodeo was once again a huge success for the Adam's County Sheriff's Office.

“The weather was perfect, and families came from miles away,” said Rodeo Committee Chairman Capt. Wayne Rabb. “It was a lot of work, and we’re all tired, but we are very pleased with the turn out.”

As it was in its first year, proceeds from the rodeo will be used to purchase law enforcement equipment for deputies not funded by the county.

Adams Co. detention officer resigns after arrest

An Adams County jailer ended up in jail Wednesday after he was arrested by Vidalia, La., police.

Brandon Lee Gardner, a detention officer at the Adams County jail, was arrested at 2:50 a.m. Wednesday and charged with DUI first offense, reckless operation of a vehicle, criminal damage to property, aggravated flight from an officer and battery of an officer, according to a statement from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Gardner has resigned from his position with the sheriff’s office.

Saturday, May 12, is the U.S. Postal Service's annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive.

The one-day drive is the nation's largest single-day food drive. Delivery carriers will collect food as they deliver mail that day.
