Natchez attractions declare bankruptcy

An historic mansion and a tavern that has operate for decades in downtown Natchez have filed for bankruptcy protection from foreclosure.

The Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/sv4KCG ) that both Monmouth Plantation and King's Tavern remain open.

United Way 7th Annual Jambalaya Cook-Off

NATCHEZ, MS (WLBT) - The United Way 7th Annual Jambalaya Cook-Off is Friday, Aug. 26.

According to the Natchez Convention & Vistors Bureau, the event will be at the Natchez Convention Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

Area businesses, organizations, restaurants and families will come together to find out who makes the best jambalaya.

The event will kickoff the 2011 fundraising campaign, "Salute the Troops," with $6 meals, live music and lots of publicity for the cooking teams, sponsors and United Way partnering agencies.

Second Saturday in Downtown Natchez

NATCHEZ, MS - Follow the twinkling white lights and white balloons for shopping, music, art events and refreshments during Second Saturday in Downtown Natchez.

Shops and galleries along Main, Franklin, Commerce and Pearl Streets will welcome browsers to special after-hours fun into the evening, according to the Natchez Downtown Development Association.

August's Second Saturday is Aug. 13. Events will fill the shops and streets from 5 to 8 p.m.

Natchez Food Festival firing things up this weekend

NATCHEZ, MS (WLBT) - Regional chefs are making their way to Natchez to participate in the annual Natchez Food and Wine Festival this weekend.

The events kick off Friday night at the Natchez Convention Center with Tastings Along the River, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m, where every chef participating during the weekend will serve up samplings of their signature dishes, and vintners will provide wine tastings to wash them down. There will be a Chef’s Party to follow.

Natchez Malt Shop sustains heavy damage
NATCHEZ, MS (WLBT) - The Natchez Malt Shop sustained heavy damage Thursday night, when a man fleeing police ran into the front of it.

Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins says a patrol officer saw a car driving on the wrong side of the street around 11:25. When the officer tried to flag the car down, the driver fled.

Chief Mullins says the officer pursued him, and a short time later, the car crashed into the Natchez Malt Shop. The driver tried to run, but police caught him.
