On April 13, deputies Michelle McAllister and Hunter Parker were dispatched to Lower Woodville Road where they spent quality time protecting the lives of passing motorists and free-spirited horses that had escaped along the road.

Sheriff's Office issues reminder after wrecks

The Adams County Sheriff's Office issued a reminder to residents after two vehicle accidents involving deer were reported just days into the new year.

The sheriff's office reminded residents "to be aware of their surroundings while driving – especially at night – as hunting season is in full force for the area."

In December, 18 accidents involving wildlife were reported in the county. One of those accidents involved a sheriff's deputy who was patrolling Highway 61 South on Dec.

Free youth squirrel hunt in February

The youth squirrel hunts are back and will take place across the state Feb. 11 – including at the Sandy Creek Wildlife Management Area near Natchez.

According to the Mississippi Wildlife Federation, these hunts were developed to introduce youths 10 to 15 years old to hunting and conservation.

The events are provided by the Mississippi Wildlife Federation, Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, Mississippi State University Extension Service and the U.S.

Squirrel hunting set to start in area Oct. 15

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Mississippi squirrel hunting season is quickly approaching and will last through the end of February.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks says now is the time to check equipment and prepare for a safe hunting season.

Hunters should be sure their hunting licenese are not expired, according to the MDWFP.
